Creation of Hicon, an extensive collection of over 400 universally adaptable icons, and the development of the Hicon website as a free resource for designers and developers.
Crafted a comprehensive icon library tailored for universal application, focusing on meticulous design and functionality. Developed the Hicon website as a user-friendly platform, offering icons for diverse applications. Fostered a responsive design ecosystem, providing tools for both design and web development professionals. Spearheaded community interaction, sharing insights, and incorporating user feedback into the project.
Visual Designer, Icon Designer, Web Developer
Successfully launched Hicon with widespread adoption in the design and developer community. Built and maintained the Hicon website, gaining significant traffic and recognition on platforms like Iconbolt, Iconduck, and Medium. Enhanced web development skills, learning WebPack and Google Analytics.
During one of the last lockdown in 2020 due the Covid19, I found a creative outlet in icon design. This journey led to Hicon – my collection of over 400 icons, now a free resource for designers and developers at hicon.me. Each icon, crafted on a 24x24 grid, embodies my belief in universal design - adaptable for any project.
My quest began with a simple idea: to push my Figma skills to new heights. As I delved into the world of icons, it became clear that this was more than just a skill-building exercise – it was about contributing to the creative community.
Every icon in Hicon was meticulously designed to ensure pixel-perfection. I aimed for a generalist approach, ensuring that these icons could seamlessly fit into diverse design landscapes.
For this project, I recognised the unique requirements of designers and developers, leading to its dual-integration approach.
For Designers
- Icons are readily available for download, simplifying the design process.
- This feature enables designers to integrate icons effortlessly into various creative projects.
For Developers
- A JavaScript setup caters specifically to web development needs.
- This setup includes: An embedding script for easy integration of icons into web pages, and flexibility for on-the-fly adjustments in dynamic web environments.
Versatility and Adaptability
- This dual approach ensures Hicon’s versatility, making it suitable for a wide array of project environments and workflows.
I shared my journey on social media and design platforms such as Dribbble and Reddit , gathered feedback, and assisted fellow creators. This engagement was not just about sharing; it was about learning and growing together.
Hicon's adoption by the design and developer community was rapid, with mentions on platforms like Iconbolt, Iconduck, and a feature on Medium. Based on recent data (Dec 2023) the site is still showing traffic activity of about 2000/3000 unique views per year, without counting the access via GitHub and other platforms which Hicon is now present.
The project also became a playground for my web development skills. I built the Hicon website from scratch, learning about WebPack and Google Analytics along the way. The site, still active with thousands of yearly views, stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of Hicon.
